TO DRAPE OR NOT TO DRAPE

House Window Coverings

Custom drapes have always been a fantastic way to elevate design in homes. With the current trend being modern design, one may wonder if drapes are still in. The answer is a resounding, YES! According to Livingetc, “curtains add texture and coziness to a space, something other window coverings like blinds and shutters cannot do.”

Curtain designs have drastically evolved, so many common looks of the past are no longer popular. And while there may be some debate, many designers agree that more dramatic and formal designs should be used. These have been replaced with more casual, straightforward appearances that don’t attract attention. – House Digest

Currently, trends for custom drapes lean towards bamboo, organic cotton, and recycled fabrics. Modern Country style and the use of velvet greens drapes are also making their way into homes nationwide. Some current trending colors include neo-mint, forest green, gray, and pink.

Things To Consider With the Use of Drapes:

Drapes require additional maintenance. Unlike other window treatments, certain drapery materials require periodic professional cleaning.

Quality matters. Living in desert climates means that the sun can warp and fade colors more quickly. Increasing the budget for high quality, custom drapes means they may withstand the elements longer.

Size matters. Just as drapes can enhance the look of a room, they can also have the opposite effect with incorrect proportion.  Having the wrong size and ill-fitting drapes will detract from the overall look of a space.

Automation. Custom drapery systems can now be automated. If you want to dress a window with just drapes alone, automating them will give you more ease and convenience.

Good things come in pairs. Having existing window treatments doesn’t mean you can’t add drapes over them. Just be sure your drapes go with the style of your current window treatments and add to its function.

If you are considering adding custom drapes to enhance the look of your home, we can help! Our designers have decades of experience and can help you find the proper drapery for any room. Remember, adding custom drapes are like the icing on the cake… and everyone should have cake.
